Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is quite different from its predecessors and if you’ve skipped the last couple of games in the franchise then you’re in for a surprise. While there’s a lot of new features in this game that makes it even more fun, new players often find it hard to realize the basics of the mechanics offered in the game.

There are a handful of things and features that took us around 30 hours to find. And to save you from the trouble, we’ve decided to make Assassin’s Creed Valhalla more fun for you by sharing some essential tips that’ll significantly help you to an excellent start. Stick with us till the end Vikings, skal!

Tips for Beginners in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Finding Resources (Ores, Leather, Fabric)

Basic resources like ores, leather, and fabric are the essential part of the economy and they help you upgrade your weapons and armor. Ores are can be found around mountains and cliffs while leather is obtained from animals and loot chests.

But, hunting animals or going to the edge of the mountains to find ores is a real headache and that’s why you should always buy ores, leather, and other resources from the trade shop.

All these resources can be bought at the market with silver coins which you’ll loot from various bases/camps around the world. The only purpose of the silver coins is to purchase new weapons and armor but since most of them are obsolete, it’s better to buy the resources and upgrade your equipped armor and weaponry.

Furthermore, the fabric is a bit hard to find at the beginning of the game and players don’t really need it at the start since most of the upgrades only require ores and leather. But, later in the game, you’ll need it and to find Fabric, you’ll have to travel the settlements in Northumbria to gather a large number of Fabric pieces.

Upgrade Your Settlement

Upgrading Ravensthorpe is essential and upgrading it in the early few hours of the gameplay will have excellent benefits for you. But, out of all buildings, it’s better to set up a Stable, Shipyard, Blacksmith, Trading Pot, Barracks, and Hidden One Bureau first.

The stable will unlock a variety of new horses and skills. Players can enhance the speed and stamina of their horses which will save you a lot of time. Also, you can also teach your horse and other mounts to swim in water which is a huge life-saver.

Similarly, all the other essential buildings mentioned above have their own unique features and if you’ve gathered enough supplies from the monastery raids then make sure to start off by setting up these buildings first.

Combat Tips

During the initial hours, it’s better to unlock the ‘dual-weapon wield’ feature from the skill tree because two weapons are always better than one. Since the beginning, I’ve always relied on fine Dane Axes to get me through the toughest enemies. Also, when you’ve wielded dual weapons, you can use a special attack that’ll deal significant damage to the enemies. Players that play Valhalla on PC can press and hold ‘Q’ to launch the special attack.

Furthermore, fire arrows or torches can burn through poison. If there’s any cave or openings that have green gas around them then it’s probably poison and if you went through, the player will start to lose health and too much consumption can result in desynchronization. But, you can use fire to get rid of the poison.

The Focus of the Nornir, an ability that you will unlock at the beginning of the game is a must-have. You can use this range-ability to slow time for a few seconds and launch arrows. During this short span of time, make sure to target the orange-ish areas to stun your enemies and take them down immediately. This ability can be used against the most fierce enemies in the game.

Upgrade Rations

Rations store the health of Eivor and a single bag of ration isn’t enough to keep you alive during intense battles. For newbies, it’s advised to upgrade your rations at the initial stage of the game to increase your health. Also, use skill points to constantly increase the health bar by unlocking more abilities from the Skill Tree.

Loot Montesaries, Villages, and Castles

Looting chests around England is your main source of income and without wealth, you won’t be able to upgrade your weapons or unlock new abilities. Starting off, make sure to find as many books of knowledge as possible because it will unlock new abilities that can be used during the melee and ranged combat.

However, getting to these special chests is quite intriguing since most of them are placed behind barred doors. The first tactic in this situation is to circle around the room/building and find the weak point of the building. The players will need to break the fragile sticks, which are often located above the main door or at the side of the buildings to access the building.

In some cases, a barred wall is also obstructing the way, and to clear it, you will need an explosive weapon. In such a situation, players can use ‘Oil Barrels’ and throw them at the wall to make way. The second option is to use the‘’ Incendiary Powder Trap’’ ability which will make your arrows explosive.

Skills Points

With nearly 350 skills points in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, choosing the right skill can be quite confusing. But, for beginners in Valhalla, your first priority must be to quickly unlock adrenaline slots because they can have a significant impact on the combat.

Since 90% of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is chopping off enemies, it’s best to be prepared, and having additional adrenaline shots will definitely be a great addition to your arsenal.

Conclusion

These are some of the things I wish I knew when I was starting it off but we’re glad that we could offer assistance to our fellow gamers. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is an incredible RPG and although it may not have the ‘Assassins and Templar’ storyline, the plot is still quite entertaining.

That’s all folks!
