Sharing a match of Warzone action or creating a castle in Minecraft with a friend makes it twice as much fun. While playing against your friends is exciting, having them on your team makes the game even more enjoyable, and the fond memories you make along the way are priceless. That’s why, in today’s roundup, we’ll talk about the best CO-OP games that offer local and online CO-OP mode.
What is CO-OP Mode?
CO-OP is an abbreviation used for ‘Cooperative Video Games’ which allows players to team up with their friends and family against a common enemy. Games like Destiny 2, Payday 2, and A Way Out are the best examples of a CO-OP game. In such games, players are fighting against AI, and such mode is usually referred to as ‘PVE’.
There are two sorts of CO-OP modes, including Online and couch mode. In the online CO-OP, players can invite their friends in the online lobby and play against other opponents. Similarly, couch modes mean that more than one player can team up against the AI while in the same room, using different controllers.
Best CO-OP Games in 2022
The online gaming community has evolved tremendously over the years. And such advancement in the field introduced us to many CO-OP games that make for unforgettable experiences.
Even though not every CO-OP is spectacular and managed to attract enthusiasts, there are a few that have gone above and beyond and truly provided a memorable CO-OP experience. The following are, in our humble opinion, the best CO-OP games in 2022 that deserve your attention.
A Way Out
After watching enough episodes of Prison Break, we all have, at one point, dreamt of a way to break out of the prison with a fellow prisoner. Fortunately, A Way Out, with its stellar CO-OP mode allows you to play the game with your friend and break out of the prison.
In fact, the game cannot be enjoyed to its full extinct without a partner. The CO-OP mode of A Way Out allows you to play with a partner while sitting on a couch or you could invite them online, no matter which part of the world they’re from.
A Way Out tells the tale of two inmates who manages to escape the prison using sophisticated tactics and sneakiness. Unfortunately, the events that transpire later dismantle their dream of freedom.
The plot is incredibly sad. Without giving too much away, it is safe to say that A Way Out is one of the most beautifully written AAA titles you’ll come across. The story is inspiring and the gameplay is beautiful, which makes you want to end the short campaign in a single sitting.
Last year’s most successful indie title, Among Us, doesn’t need much of an introduction. However, if you’re new to the CO-OP genre discovering it for the first time, Among Us is an incredible CO-OP game where you team up with a bunch of players and try to rat out the traitor. In a spaceship, many characters will be deployed but only one of them is the traitor. Using your detective skills and assessing the situation will lead to decision-making.
But beware, your friends who you’re so fond of and trust blindly could be the traitors themselves. Among Us, is without a doubt, an enjoyable title that you’ll love if you’re looking for a game to play with a partner.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Fond of third-person shooters and want to team up with a friend to hunt the enemies? Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is the best it can get. Offering CO-OP mode in the wildest of the scenarios, this one is hard and requires you to team up with players who know how to handle a gun. The PVE mode is, especially, competitive and having a partner to back you up is a blessing.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege offers incredible gameplay throughout. There is nothing that could be more spectacular in the graphics or mechanics of the game, and you will never get bored firing at the enemy. Those looking for a CO-OP action game should keep Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege at the top of their queue.
It Takes Two
“How did it go at the Dentist?”
With the marriage of her parents almost on the verge of collapse, Rose unknowingly uses a magical love book to keep her parents together. And what unravels next is sweet, bitter, heart-warming, and heart-breaking, all at the same time in a miniature world. Hazelight Studios, famous for their first AAA entry, A Way Out, are also the developers behind It Takes Two.
This game is played in a CO-OP mode and cannot be played solo. Players either need to have a pal sitting right next to them or invite a friend online to get the game underway. To be honest, the nature of the game is a bit hard to explain but the gameplay is sweet and once you’ve tasted it, you’d be glad. Although, It Takes Two is suited for couples and not the regular hack-n-slash duos.
Robbing banks and ripping off meth dealers just got real with Payday 2. Players take advantage of the CO-OP feature of the game and invite them over to enjoy a spectacular time planning the biggest heists of all time.
From planning to executing the heists requires a player with a sharp piece of mind, one who could be on the lookout, and the one that’s good with guns. And to have all of them on your team, Payday 2 offers a 4-way CO-OP which allows you to invite 3 more friends to play alongside you.
Although released in 2013, Payday 2 with its adventurous and enjoyable gameplay is played by hundreds of players every day. And since it was one of the first games to introduce the CO-OP feature to modern gaming, Payday 2 will always be a great asset to the CO-OP genre.
That’s all folks!
