The year 2020 wasn’t the most exciting year for gamers because the pandemic forced many developers to delay the development of their games. Most of the games that were supposed to release in 2020 were delayed because they needed more time to cook. And looking at Cyberpunk 2077 and what a disaster it was, we’d say that it was a wise decision by developers to delay the game instead of releasing half-cooked games.
Moving on, the year 2021 is going to be really special for gamers who love racing games because we will be getting our hands on many AAA racing games that will blow us away. And with the release of next-gen consoles, the games releasing in 2021 will feature realistic graphics and with real-time ray-tracing, the iconic roads around the globe will be a sight for sore eyes.
While we’re eagerly waiting for new releases this year, here are our picks for the best racing games coming in 2021 that we’re really looking forward to.
1. Forza Motorsport 8
Developer – Turn 10 Studios
Supported Platform – Xbox Series X and Microsoft Windows
The Forza franchise has produced some of the most realistic driving games that we’ve seen so far and they’re arguably the biggest racing games franchise. Back in the day, EA used to release a Forza Motorsport game every couple of years but, in the past few years, they’ve been quiet until the teaser for Forza Motorsport 8 was dropped in 2020.
In the minute-long teaser of the game, we witnessed new tracks and erotic sports cars with real-life driving simulations. The surroundings never looked better and even though nothing much was revealed about the game, we could also say that the mechanics will be smoother, and with the next-gen Xbox console, the graphics will leave you in awe.
The pandemic may have delayed the development of the game but according to the tradition at EA, we’ll hopefully get our hands-on Forza Motorsport 8 in some time in 2021. It is also predicted that Forza Motorsport 8 will be an Xbox exclusive and it may get a release date for Microsoft Windows down the line.
2. MotoGP 21
Developer – Milestone
Supported Platform – Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox Series X
If you’re a racing games fanatic then you’ve probably followed the MotoGP franchise from the old days when we used to play it on our PlayStation 2. Back in the day, it was one of the best racing games on the market and we enjoyed every second of it.
Fortunately, the MotoGP franchise has released a handful of games over the last two decades and they offered excellent gameplay with smooth mechanics and an exciting driving experience. Moreover, MotoGP 21 will be the latest addition to the franchise and it is all set to be released on April 22, 2021.
Similar to its predecessors, players will be able to compete against the most professional bikers from around the globe. With nearly 40 iconic bikes in the garage, it’s all up to you to win the championship and rule the 2021 season of MotoGP. The MotoGP 21 is one of the most anticipated racing games of 2021 and we’re eagerly waiting for its release.
3. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Developer – KT Engine
Supported Platform – Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X
Ever since we saw the teaser for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, we couldn’t keep the excitement to ourselves and wanted to play it right away. However, the developers at KT racing haven’t confirmed the release date of the game but, it was hinted that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be dropping in 2021.
The first and second installments in the Test Drive series really impressed us back in the day but our expectations are very high from this one since the more experienced developers took over the franchise. Moreover, the developers didn’t explain much about the mechanics of the game but so far, we know that it is going to be an open-world racing game much like Need for Speed Payback, and it will feature many iconic cars from major brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and more.
By the looks of the teaser, we couldn’t tell much about the game but critics believe that its predecessors might highly inspire the gameplay and the mechanics of this game. However, we’ll have to wait and see it for ourselves.
4. F1 2021
Developer – Codemasters
Supported Platform – PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Microsoft Windows
The art of covering an entire universe of Formula racing inside a game is not a child’s play and believe us, we’ve witnessed many that have tried and failed. However, to experience the best and the most satisfying Formula One racing experience, you’ll have to wait for the F1 2021.
The F1 racing games have always impressed us with their unique first-person gameplay and the latest installment in the franchise, F1 2020 blew us away with its flawless driving experience. Extremely detailed gameplay, customizations of the car, and crew scenes were so finely crafted that we couldn’t help but praise the efforts of the developers at Codemasters.
The F1 2021 isn’t officially announced yet but, we believe that the developers will stick to their pattern of releasing a game every year. And with E3 2021 just around the corner, it can be said that the developers might announce the game at the event.
5. Circuit Superstars
Developer – Codemasters
Supported Platform – PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox One
While most of the upcoming racing games of 2021 will offer you a unique and more reality-based driving experience, Circuit Superstars captures the driving simulation in over-head dynamic gameplay. Scattered around different decades with unique dinkies, Circuit Superstars is a must-play racing game of this year.
Developed by Original Fire Games and published by Square Enix, Circuit Superstars is an arcade-like racing game that will definitely bring back memories from the 90’’s era. However, the driving is very realistic and unlike anything you’ve seen in an arcade racing game. Furthermore, one of the developers said that the game is relatively easy to play but extremely hard to master.
Circuit Superstars does not have a confirmed release date but, it is expected to release sometime in the month of March 2021.
Since the early days of arcade gaming, we fell in love with racing games and always wanted more. Fortunately, we had some excellent titles like Forza Horizon 4 and Need For Speed Payback in the past but, we’re craving for more.
2021 is going to be an excellent year for racing games and it is also rumored we might even get to see a new Need for Speed game this year. But without any official announcement, it wouldn’t be wise to get our hopes up. Nevertheless, there are some excellent racing games coming our way and we’re eagerly waiting for them.
