Best Stealth Games like Thief – Our Picks

Without lingering around too much, these are our picks for the best stealth games like Thief on the market. We believe all of these titles truly deserve your time and hard-earned money.

The Dishonored franchise, which heavily relies on stealth to get you through, has to be the closest stealth game to Thief on the market. Featuring a deep storyline backed with a stunning world doomed by the black death, the Dishonored franchise offered some of the best stealth games we’ve ever played.

From the strange inventions of Jindosh to the struggles of Corvo, the Dishonored franchise offered a timeless story that will always have a place in our hearts.

Metro Exodus

Brave enough to pick the game from time to time and scared to explore the abandoned dungeons, Metro Exodus is a masterclass of the stealth genre. Although not entirely based on stealth, it is, however, a vital part of the game and the mechanics force a player to emphasize stealth to get through.

Not similar to Thief in any way, the stealth part of the game is definitely similar. Once spotted, the world is unforgiving and all one can do is take for their life. Funnily enough, the post-apocalyptic world of Metro Exodus is scarier than Thief and unless you have a brave heart, the game could be quite terrifying.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

MGS franchise has always provided its fans with solid games. And it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the 8th-instalment in the franchise is something special. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes continues the plot with another excellent line-up of exciting missions where stealth is a major part of the gameplay.

Unlike other third-person shooters, MGS V emphasizes extreme stealth. Anyone going gun-blazing scenario is something that’s not appreciated in the franchise. And if you’re a fan of stealth games like Thief, this one’s right up your alley.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag

Every soul who’s spent a good few hours on AAA titles is familiar with Assassin’s Creed franchise. Among them, AC4: Black Flag holds a special place for its brilliance across all platforms. From exciting plots to well-planed missions, the game had it all and it makes us think if its stealth system was among the top few. It is and for stealth game lovers, this one would never disappoint.

Like most AC games, stealth is a vital part of this game as well. From taking down enemies from the bushes to performing flawless air assassinations, the stealthy gameplay offerings of AC4 will offer a good few hours.

Since the day it landed, Hitman was a hit and to this day, the latest instalment in the Hitman franchise is living up to the expectations. One of the most famous games from the stealth games genre, Hitman is highly recommended if you’d like to experience the thrill of assassinating high-profile targets using innovative methods.

Either drop poison in their glass or cause a wet floor to be the cause of their death, Hitman emphasizes thinking outside the box while relying on stealth. If you’re here for stealth games like Thief, the reboot Hitman franchise should be your top priority.

Batman Arkham Knight

We all know how stealthy Batman can be. And especially when you’re against the likes of Scarecrow, you have to use all the tricks up your sleeves to beat the vicious villains. And all that while keeping in stealth mode.

Batman Arkham Knight is particularly one of the finest stealth games in the franchise. It offers everything from well-crafted gameplay to intense fights backed by an exciting plot that keeps you at the edge of your seat at all times. And the dark times of Gotham are sure to remind you of the Gothic vibes from Thief.

Resident Evil: Village

Returning for one more time, Resident Evil: Village follows the story of Ethan Winter in search of his daughter after she was kidnapped. And as one can expect, it’s not for the faint-hearted as its first-person perspective, much like Thief offers an extremely scary experience.

Although Lady Dumitrescu and her daughters aren’t that scary, it’s best to be stealthy to ward off all sorts of evils. If you’re in for stealthy gameplay with dark vibes, similar to Thief, then you’ll love this one. On the contrary, if you don’t have a knack for horror games, you should probably look forward and look at our next entry.

Thief: Deadly Shadows

Before the not-so-successful reboot, the original thief franchise was much appreciated. Especially  Thief: Deadly Shadows which was regarded as one of the finest stealth games of its time. And although the graphics weren’t the best and it was lacking certain mechanics essential to the core of the game, it was well-received by the community.

Years after its release,  Thief: Deadly Shadows is still considered a good game and since it cost less than $1, we highly recommend giving it a shot. Aside from its stealth, it may also educate you on the history of the game.

thief, the reboot version, received mixed reviews from the critics. Some people, including me, were in awe of it while others despised it for its fundamental flaws. But as for the stealth part, it was done quite well and the whole point of the game was to be stealthy.

Unlike other stealth games where one also has the option to go guns blazing, Thief motivated its players to remain under the shadows and steal the most unprecious items. Lastly, there were our picks for the best games like the Thief on the market and if you’d like to recommend a few more, there’s a comment section below!

That’s all folks!
